The DoubleTree by Hilton Berkeley Marina receives mixed reviews, with some guests appreciating its location and marina views, while others highlight significant concerns regarding dated rooms, outdated facilities, and inconsistent service. Key issues include a lack of phone access in rooms, elevator malfunctions, and recurring complaints about cleanliness and value, particularly given the hotel's age.
It was all pretty standard. Rooms were clean and comfy. We got a room with the marina view which was nice. Staff was nice enough. The pool and hot tub were good. My 2 issues were that there were no phones in the rooms! So I couldn’t call for anything, and it just seems kind of sketchy. They had a number To text, but of course, no response or acknowledgment from any staff at all. We had some people fighting in a room near us, and I had two small kids that were asleep. I couldn’t make a call to the front desk if I would have needed to. Happy I didn’t find it totally necessary before they stopped - but what if the fight escalated? And I was in one of the elevators and it just totally went out. Stopped, went completely black. Told them about it and nobody really seemed to care that much, so that was kind of a weird reaction. But everything else was good so I won’t hold the elevator thing against them. Just like - why is there no phone in my room? So weird.
Its in an amazing location, but they haven't kept up with the rooms. The tub liner had chunks missing, used women razor blades left in the night stand, bed looked like someone got suplexed because the box stand was crushed on one side. The bed has been heavily used as you sink in the middle. The door way to the bathroom is not up to code, im 5'8 and my shoulders were wider than the door way. I probably wouldn't stay here again unless they update thier rooms.
The location is nice and by the water, and the staff was nice, but that is where the positives end. The hotel is severely outdated. The room I was in felt extremely small, was near a loud ice machine, was old and ugly. I understand this is not a Waldorf but I expected a lot more. I also found it odd that the pool and gym had very limited hours (closed at 1pm). The morning coffee normally provides about eight options, but only two were available. As a lifetime diamond member that has traveled to a lot of Hilton properties, this is probably the worst value I have ever experienced.
A Confrontational, Uncomfortable Stay That Ended My Loyalty to Hilton From the moment we arrived, the experience was off. The lobby had a strong odor—urine, bodily smells, and what felt like an overall lack of cleanliness. A woman who appeared to be homeless was yelling incoherently in the lobby while we were checking in. Although I did receive an upgrade, the service felt cold and transactional—right down to being handed a cold cookie with no warmth or hospitality behind it. The next day completely derailed the stay. My husband and I were relaxing and watching a movie when the hotel called our room phone—twice—without explanation. Shortly after, staff came knocking on our door aggressively and began arguing with me, making accusations that made absolutely no sense. I calmly asked them to review security footage if there were any concerns, yet they continued to argue with me for several minutes. It was intrusive, unnecessary, and completely disrupted our stay. Being confronted and accused in that manner is unacceptable and made me feel harassed as a guest. Once the experience was already ruined, the rest became impossible to ignore. The coffee maker was broken, the beds were uncomfortably hard, and the property is clearly in need of major upgrades. The marina location itself feels outdated, and the surrounding area—particularly across the street—had many people living in their cars, which added to the overall discomfort. This stay was disappointing on every level, especially from a brand I’ve long trusted. Between the lack of service, confrontational staff behavior, and the condition of the property, I won’t be returning to this DoubleTree or this Hilton brand. This experience has honestly pushed me toward making Marriott Bonvoy my go-to moving forward.
The DoubleTree by Hilton is quite outdated, and the rooms are in need of upgrading. The air conditioning did not work properly, and my room felt consistently damp, which was uncomfortable during my stay. I was also disappointed that I did not receive the signature DoubleTree chocolate chip cookies. To access the pool, you have to walk outside for a few seconds, which is not ideal, especially in bad weather. The restaurant experience was decent, the food was amazing, but service could be slow at times. Overall, I was surprised that this hotel is part of the Hilton brand. That being said, it is worth the money for the price, the location is excellent, and the hotel offers some great amenities and views!
The stay at Double Tree Hotel - Berkeley Marina was below expectations for a number of reasons. The room: The hotel room felt like it is due for some upgrades, there is no mini fridge to keep your food or drinks cold, and there are no blackout curtains, so as soon as the sun as up, you can no longer sleep in. The bathroom smelled like wet mop, the bathroom ceiling had black mildew spots all over the ceiling as if it hasn't been cleaned in a very long time. This hotel had the loudest doors ever. I thought it was just our room but anytime guests around us opened/closed their doors, it sounded as if they were being slammed. From my experience with the door for our room, it seems like the door gets stuck and it hard to open and close it. Also, around 10:20pm there were guests screaming and fighting in the hallway and I tried to call the front desk 3 times to call for security and no one would answer. It was alarming and concerning that no one would answer the phone while a chaotic situation was happening in front of our door. I noticed there aren't any cameras in the hallway either. The parking: The parking situation is awful. Not only is there a $40 charge per night for parking, but it's difficult to enter/exit due to an outdated system. The "tap your room key to exit/enter" feature is extremely flawed, myself and other guests had trouble getting our keys to work and it caused a multiple car back up as people were trying to enter or exit the parking lot. I went to the front desk for help with this multiple times and though they said the room key was reset and fixed, I continued to have this issue during the duration of my stay. Overall, I expected a better experience considering this is a Double Tree, but I would never recommend staying here.
Amazing beautiful location on the water, Staff was pleasant. Rooms were pretty basic bed was not the best, not bad overall. Parking prices were EXCESSIVELY EXPENSIVE. I was in building 3 so pretty far walk to and from the lobby and main entrance. Overall decent experience would stay here again.
My recent stay had a few positives, including the friendly front desk staff, but overall it didn’t meet expectations. The hotel feels very dated and could use significant upkeep to bring it up to standard. The biggest disappointment was the service at the restaurant bar. The staff there was noticeably disrespectful, and the way my spouse was treated left a very poor impression. While the front desk team was great, the condition of the property and the lack of professionalism in the restaurant make it hard for me to recommend this hotel.
We held a conference here and all of the staff, especially Natasha, was incredibly attentive and helpful. They acted quickly to any request and went above and beyond to solve problems, adjust facilities, and make sure we had everything we needed. Everything was executed perfectly, on time, and within budget. Thanks so much for your hospitality!
Nice location, room very clean, comfortable mattress and pillows. However, as with many hotels the last few years, the 'extras' aren't that great. The restaurant isn't open for lunch, there are only some pre-prepared foods. The restaurant says it closes at 11, but when I tried to get something at 9:45 I was told the kitchen was already closed. The room doesn't have a menu, it has a QR code. The room tv shows netflix, apple+, etc., but if you've been wanting to catch up on a show you don't have a subscription for - too bad, those options are only if YOU already have YOUR login. The room has no notepad, no pen, no Gideon Bible, no extra blanket in the closet, no clock, no microwave (there was a mini fridge). Things are just not as fancy or easy as staying in hotels used to be. But still I would stay there again because it was clean. EDIT: I forgot to add they charged $40 FOR PARKING!!!!!
